This is a scrapbook of my life trying to make and of my art-related finds from around the web. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My blog dedicated to my work is
“Here’s a fine piece of downtown NYC avant-garde history. Performance artist Meredith Monk’s “16 Millimeter Earrings” for voice, guitar, and tapes, first performed in 1966 and recreated for the 1979 video above. Monk’s musical/theatrical/multimedia/film art has influenced everyone from Bruce Nauman to David Byrne to Bjork. “I work in between the cracks, where the voice starts dancing, where the body starts singing, where theater becomes cinema,” Monk once said.” David Pescovitz (via BoingBoing)
It does drag in one or two places but there are some beautiful moments. Her voice is amazing.
Apparently Jean Giraud/ Moebius has lost his battle with cancer today. One of the best illustrators ever, he wrote graphic novels and did design work for films such Alien, Tron, and The Fifth Element. Here’s a video of him at work.
edit; Scrap apparently, I’ve seen enough articles to confirm it methinks.
Awesome sculpture of the day: “Metalmorphosis” by David Cerny
“Metalmorphosis” is a large stainless steel kinetic sculpture located in Charlotte, NC. It’s 30 feet tall, weighing in at 14 tons and is composed of a number of steel slices that slowly rotate out of sync with each other, as you can see in the above video.
