Are you anywhere near the rift in Cardiff;)
Quite near. Only a few minutes away.
I could see the bay out of my window in my last flat!

I watched Fantastic Mr. Fox for the first time earlier. I enjoyed it, but I always have this odd feeling at the end of Wes Andersen films that somehow I should have enjoyed/appreciated it more. The animation wasn’t the best but I think most of the things I didn’t like were choices rather than failures.

Then I watched some Blue Planet with the dog. Jake gets so focused on the tv when nature documentaries are on, I love it. Also swimming guillemots look amazing.

I wanna do something with my hair. I’ve been growing it out and originally was just gonna have it really long, but I kinda wanna chop it up and finally dye it (I have bad skin problems and my scalp is the worst so always been wary of dyeing). I think I’m bored mostly.

Also It’s weird that there are so many floods happening all over the world at the same time.

Just finished watching the Korra finale!

Not sure what to think of the ending… but I won’t discuss it yet. spoilers and all. Over all quite good.

I had only watched all the other episodes thursday so I mix & matched my boxset binge and finale yearnings in the best way I think.

Sure! Squishing mud and getting fat off way too much meat sounds like a great plan - especially if you’re paying for the intercontinental flight! :P

Just finished Bret Easton Ellis’ “The Rules of Attraction”

It was a really good book. The use of multiple first person unreliable-narrators was brilliant and twisted. Overall it was kind of demoralising, but it felt nourishing to read, like good books should. Would very much recommend. I have to watch the movie again now.

Books! A big batch of withdrawn library books about asian performing arts and grave art and a cheap new book about Maurizio Cattelan.

Glazing - are you in the dinosaur club?

So at the moment I'm glazing, which means I'm finding all sorts of things to do - clean the house, go out to lunch etc. On the way home from lunch I stopped by a supply shop I don't normally go to, and asked for calcium chloride. "no, we don't sell raw ingredients any more. Do you mean to say you still mix your own glaze?" Well, yes, I said. And I do cone 10 reduction firing, and wood firing as well as raku. He looked really surprised, so I said maybe I'm a bit of a dinosaur - and he didn't disagree.
So here's a question for ceramicists:Do you still make your own glazes from raw ingredients?
My Response; In my foundation year we didn't have access to a glaze lab and used commercial glazes. Since then the courses I've taken have had glaze labs. I much prefer making them myself from scratch, creating my own recipes, but I have no problem with using the commercial ones. There is a just-add-water pre-made transparent glaze in our glaze room that I have used for convenience's sake.
The handling of raw materials is one of the things which I really think puts ceramics ahead of say painting in my mind. I also get the general feeling that most ceramics people have a preference for the DIY glazes.

You know, the way to do this would be through google maps. Everyone could put a pin on the map and some info about themselves, It could build up a really interesting picture of us potters.

That would be interesting but I feel that lots of people might not want to give their exact location. People could maybe pin at their school or gallery/shop or something - might get messy though. Could be passworded for privacy maybe? I feel we need some sort of connection network anyway. Some people liked my post of links but no-one reblogged and added their own like I hoped. (Also I don’t call myself a potter but there is no time for that talk!)

Been back in Cork for a week now. Woo.

I should draw, I’ve been neglecting my proper drawings skills. Only been small and doodley things for a while…

I need to just do things.

This blog needs more of me as well.

Still a bit rundown from being ill ergo my packing is going a bit slow.

Can’t decide whether to bring my tripod home or put it in storage. I’d quite like to do some photo/video work over summer, but is it just wishful thinking to think that I’ll actually do it?

Watched the first episode of the new Grayson Perry documentary about taste and class. Not sure what to think really, I see what he’s trying to do but not sure if it’s a good idea or if I like the resulting tapestries…

Going back home for the summer next week.

That means I have to pack up everything again. woo. Always the fun.

I need to sort out everything I’m going to be doing.

Anyone wanna just hand me tickets for an all-expenses-paid around-the-world holiday? That can go on forever if I want?

No problem! I can’t take complete credit since it’s a traditional japanese thing. Your show looks really good, I’d go see it but there seems to be an ocean in the way…
