this fucking mentality that you can’t be best friends with your significant other, that romance ruins a friendship, that BOTH FRIENDSHIP AND ROMANCE CANNOT OCCUR SIMULTANEOUSLY kills me like
that’s such a horrible, horrible and unhealthy mentality to have
I’m grossed out by the kind of stuff tumblr does to its users over an extended period of time
Grammar and punctuation is completely lost on some people, to the point where their posts are unreadable and irritating
And tumblr fosters and feeds this incredible narcissism and need to impress people- people who don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things.
Lady Zera and Prince Pyrus, from an old 90s show called Shadow Raiders (from Mainframe Entertainment, the same folks who made ReBoot and Beast Wars). These two were probably one of my first ships ever, so I decided to make a gifset because I’m nostalgic, and because the Shadow Raiders tag needed content.
What are your thoughts on War Planets (Shadow Raiders)?
I really like Shadow Raiders. I feel it’s probably the most visually creative and boasts the best diverse cast of the “Big Three” Mainframe shows (the others being Reboot and Beast Wars)… yet unfortunately doesn’t receive the same level of nostalgic fan attention the latter two command.
Although the conflict of Shadow Raiders seems very basic at first (“Big spooky, monster world inhabited by stock villain characters is nomming other planets, we gotta band together and stop it!”), the real heart of the story came from the interaction between a large cast of interesting, well developed, and charismatic men and women who were at once their own characters and yet also by-products of the cultural environments of their home planets. The different themed alien worlds and races were really clever, and I liked the evolving political situations which took place between the leaders. For example, the destruction of Planet Fire leading to refugee status of Pyrus’ people on Planet Rock’s moons and then the subsequent drama which resulted as characters from the different worlds living together.
Plus, and this is key, all the characters felt multifaceted and rich. They were never just tropes or one-note archetypes (the exception maybe being Pelvis… but even he had his moments). Braveheart wasn’t just a cool action hero, he was constantly plagued with self doubt and it was often Jade who had to assume high positions of authority. Speaking of which, while Jade could often come off as cold and violent, her most extreme of actions were always with purpose and she could be gentle and loving if the situation called for it. Femur initially comes of like creep, coward, and a lech, but he has a genuine friendship and respect for Pyrus. And Pyrus and Lady Zera were so much more than “tag-along-kids”.
Basically, it’s just a really really good show and I hope more people check it out and remember it into the future.
AM2 - Mighty Max
As I said, only two photos from AM2 because I am awful!
Here is the first one. I don’t know who he is, but I’d like to be able to link to his blog/page/whatever, so if you know him, let me know!
Pics of my Mighty Max costume from Dragon*con! I met Rob Paulsen, and it was amazing. I’d seen him in panels before, but I remember the exact moment last year that I realized no one ever mentioned Mighty Max to him at the panel. And then I thought, “hot damn, I’m going to make a Mighty Max costume and meet him dressed up.” And this year, I did.
Friday morning, we went into the Walk of Fame. I was just a bit nervous but overall I felt relaxed as we approached his table. When he saw me, he shouted, “MIGHTY MAX! Hey, that’s me!!!” and I got super shy because it was just surreal and awesome to hear the voice that I grew up with coming from him, right there, in front of me. I introduced myself to him and said that I grew up listening to his voice, and it’s a great honor to meet him in person. He was really sweet and gracious, and he complimented my costume A LOT. He said he thought it was beautifully done and spot on. By this point I was murmuring thank you and giggling like a schoolgirl. He then leaned in and said, “Hey, do you want to take a photo?”
Which, when I think back on it, was a very kind thing to say, because he knew full well that as an attendee I would be hesitant to even mention photos given the Walk of Fame restrictions. So for him to go ahead and ask *me* instead, that was really kind of him. He knew that if he asked there would be no problem. So there you have the photo above. :) We shook hands again and said bye, and I thanked him again.
It was really a nice way to kick off the con. :) I have more photos of myself, my friends, and meet ups coming up…
I don’t think I posted this before. This is a pic I gave my most favorite voice actor in the world, Rob Paulsen surrounded by all of my favorite characters he voiced. Basically, if you were born in the 80’s and grew up in front of the TV, chances are Rob voiced a good chunk of your childhood.
